I am under the impression that many people who identify as liberal, also feel strongly about environmental sustainability. Due to the boom of natural gas fracturing, there has been a lot of popular press about the potential dangers of this technology. While I self-identify as politically liberal, I also studied engineering and have worked for the natural gas industry. After having the opportunity to review proprietary data on the environmental impacts of natural gas well fracturing, I feel confident that it is safe. I think some of the risks people are concerned with are due to misunderstanding of the process. Finally, I think natural gas is a good fuel to use while we continue to build other, more-renewable forms of power generation.
