I believe the second amendment should be maintained with its current understanding for firearms.  Many people in my party no longer believe the amendment is worthwhile, due to its incredible toll on the country.  I see and lament that toll, too — gun ownership should be much more regulated and prohibitive.  But it should be achievable for those willing to live within the law-set boundaries of their fellow citizens' firearm violence concerns.

As a country we have been resigned to greater hurdles and regulations in the past.  I think we could strike a balance on this topic with conservatives who argue for the right to personal protection and responsible ownership in that area.
