I believe all human life has instrinsic value. I also believe that human beings are flawed. Historically our nation has killed innocent human beings with the death penalty. We have proved that innocent people have paid the ultimate price due to mistakes, faulty evidence, or lies and corruption. I have a skeptical view of government in general so to me it's strange that conservatives are for the death penalty. We can't trust the government to excel efficiently at mundane services, but we think they should be trusted to act as the ultimate judges on life and death? There are several other reasons why I think the death penalty is a bad idea: An inmate on death row costs more vs life in prison, the death penalty statistically is not a good deterrent, and the death penalty is applied seemingly at random for similar crimes.
