I believe there are certain crimes committed against other human beings for which only death is the appropriate punishment. Certainly this is the case in carefully planned and executed homicides, but can be true also in other cases that did not result in death of the victim. I am referring to crimes for example in which torture and pain are inflicted on innocent young children in a planned, cruel, and prolonged manner. Or a situation in which physical assault and/or sexual assault is perpetrated repeatedly on a helpless victim or multiple victims that are elderly, children, or adult(s) with physical or cognitive disabilities. Generally I believe in rehabilitation for the majority of criminals, but in some cases, I think the spirit and psyche of the human being who committed such evil crimes cannot be repaired, and I do not think it serves our community to keep the person in prison for life. They do not deserve a minute of joy that life can bring, but should be punished by death.
