Many liberals believe that our present welfare system has not created a "welfare state". However, having worked for many years with people who depend on some form of welfare, I feel that it has. While there are some individuals and families who deserve and need help, there are too many "able bodied" people taking advantage of the system. One problem with reforming the system that I see is that in order to serve the deserving efficiently and effectively, it is possible that less deserving people can "scam" the system. Liberals feel that even that is too much, but I feel it may be a necessary situation. That difference is an issue that concerns me.
