As stewards of this earth and as one of the most powerful nations in existence, we are opportunistically poised to make a large impact in the world. Currently, the US produces the second most pollutants in the world (after China, who will not comply as we are willing to). As responsible people and government, it is our job to personally limit negative externalities onto our earth and to create economic incentives that will encourage the same in others. That is why I believe in cap-and-trade mechanisms to limit and regulate pollution. I also believe in diversifying our energy sources so that we are not as dependent on only one type or on corrupt foreign leaders in oil production. These strategies might be termed "green" or "sustainable", which might be seem as 'hippie lingo', however, they are proven to strengthen our future and our current economy.
